The front end loader course is designed for both novice and experienced operators who may be expected to operate a front end loader while performing their daily duties in the working environment. Learners who achieve the course objectives will, upon completion of the course, be able to operate the front end loader safely, demonstrate start-up, shutdown and general operating procedures while maintaining professional operator attitudes.

Course content
Introduction to front end loader operations
We explain why you need to be a professional operator, identify who is considered to be professional drivers, we explain what Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) a front end loader operator may be required to use and who is responsible for which aspects of PPE and the care thereof.
Front end loader familiarization
We identify types of front end loaders; explain what they may be used for and what type of vehicles or equipment a front end loader may be required to load.
Front end loader components
We explain why operators must know the different components of the machine, identify them and explain what the function of each one is and how to check that it is serviceable.
Gauges and warning devices on front end loaders
We explain the different types of gauges we find on front end loaders, identify the different warning systems and appropriate action to be taken by operators and identify the different warning lights, buzzers and hooters.
Front end loader controls
We identify the controls found on a front end loader, explain the purpose and functioning of controls and demonstrate the operation of each control.
Front end loader checks
We identify the checks an operator must do on a front end loader and explain how and why to perform the checks.
General front end loader safety
We explain the importance of safety when operating a front end loader, the safety rules and the site rules.
Front end loader operating techniques
We explain and demonstrate the different operating techniques and explain the disadvantages of excessive idling and intermittent revving and what different exhaust smoke color indicates.
Transporting the front end loader
We explain the safety aspects a front end loader operator must consider when loading the machine for transportation and how to correctly load and position the front end loader on the transporter.
Professional operator’s attitude
We explain why a professional operator should have a good and positive attitude to his/her work and team, what is considered such an attitude, be able to identify and solve problems and communicate in the work place.
Assessment methods
We conduct a formative theoretical assessment at the beginning of the course to gauge the learner’s initial understanding (novices only). At the end of the training, a summative theoretical and practical application assessment is conducted, to find if the learner is competent; if not, additional developmental areas are identified and suggested.
